Biography

Frances Aimee Ferguson was born on March 24, 1895 in Kincardine township[1] (different from today's Kincardine municipality[2]), Bruce County, Ontario, the third child of Thomas Ferguson and Caroline (Griffith) Ferguson. Bruce County is part of the Niagara escarpment and known for it's amazing views and rock formations. Kincardine sits on the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Thomas, a farmer, was 36 and Caroline was 22. This was Thomas' second marriage[3]. He had been married to Catherine Jane Collins[4] who passed away along with their daughter, Malinda May Ferguson in 1887[5],[6]. Thomas then married Caroline in 1889. Soon Walter was born in 1891[7], and Frederick in 1893[8].

Aimee, as she was known (at least in her adult life), was followed by Sarah Letitia "Lettie" in 1897[9], Myrtle Luella in 1897[10]. The family is recorded in the 1901 census in Bruce West, Ontario[11]. Aimee is six years old and she is recorded as being of Irish ancestry. The ages of the family are Thomas, 42; Caroline, 29; Walter, 9; Frederick, 7; Lettie, 3; and Myrtle, 1. Alvin Griffith "Alfie" Ferguson was born in 1902 in Louise, Manitoba[12].

Brother Frederick's naturalization petition was filed in September 1916 and attests that, presumably the entire family, since Fred would have been eight years old, was lawfully admitted for permanent residence at Noyes, Minnesota on March 15, 1902, having entered the country by rail[13]. The next recording shows the family being joined by Thomas Stewart Ferguson, Jr. in 1904, at Stewartsville, Missouri[14]. The last child, Alice was born in 1907 also in Missouri[15].

Though we do not have a record of it, Aimee was united in marriage to Lloyd Ernest Thompson in 1912, at age sixteen[16]. He was twenty years old. Scotts Bluff County is some 500 miles (~800 km)northwest of Stewartsville. Within two years time the family was growing. Loydea Vivian was born January 9, 1914, in Minatare, Nebraska[17] followed by Wayne in 1916[18].

In 1917, the family was living at Gurley, Nebraska[19]. On February 25, 1919, Aimee's mother Caroline dies[20]. She is buried in Knob Noster, Missouri. Aimee is 23. By 1920, the family has left Nebraska and is now living in Medicine Bow, Wyoming[21]. On the 1920 census, her mother tongue is recorded as Irish, with the same listed for both parents.

In 1922, Aimee gives birth to William Ferguson Thompson is born in Fort Collins, Larimer County, Colorado[22]. Aimee is 27 years old. We know that Aimee's father Thomas is living in Larimer County in 1920 and the children Myrtle, Alvin, Thomas Jr., and Alice are with him[23]. So perhaps they traveled there so Myrtle could help Aimee with the birth.

The family still lives in Medicine Bow in 1930[24]. Lloyd's work was as a barber and he had his own shop in Medicine Bow. The family's ages are 38 (Lloyd), 35 (Aimee), 15 (Loydea), 14 (Wayne), and 7 (Bill).

Loydea graduated high school in Medicine Bow in 1931[25]. According to her obituary, she lived for a short while in Los Angeles, California and then came to Independence, Missouri. According to census records, the family lived in Independence in 1935. It is not known whether the entire family went to Los Angeles or only Loydea. Lloyd's parents were living in Los Angeles at that time so it is possible but there are no records at his time indicating either position.

Regardless, between 1930 and 1935, the family departed their home of Medicine Bow and removed to Independence, Jackson County, Missouri[26]. In 1932, Aimee's father Thomas passed away[27]. We do not have a record of where he passed away but he was laid to rest beside Caroline in Knob Noster, Missouri. She was 36 years old.

Aimee spent the rest of her life in Independence. In 1970, Lloyd preceded her in death and was buried in Independence[28],[29]. Her final years were spent at her daughter Loydea's home. There she played cards with her great-grandchildren[30]. She passed away on March 29, 1989, five days after her 94th birthday[31]. So far as we know, Aimee outlived all her siblings save sister Myrtle, who survived her another four months[32].

Loydea would live to age 92, passing away March 30, 2006[33], followed by Bill on May 1, 2009, at age 86[34]. Wayne passed some time after Bill.

Ferguson-15567 and Ferguson-6879 appear to represent the same person because: Originally, I did not have enough information but since I was able to find the correct place of birth, it's apparent that these are the same person.
