Annie says that her grandfather William Ferguson died when she was 9 years old, which means he died in Aberdeen in 1964. This is confirmed by a Find a Grave memorial.[1]
William Ferguson was employed at the Balmoral Royal estate in the Highlands of Scotland in 1913 at the age of 16. His date of birth was listed on his employment record as 2 August 1896.[2] His job was to be a Gilly and later a Gamekeeper. His duties mostly included helping the male royal family members when they went out hunting deer and shooting game.
William married Dora Jean Paton who was also working at the Balmoral Royal Estate as a Dairymaid. She would have milked the cows by hand and churned the butter. Dora began working there in 1924, and she left to get married to William in 1929.[3]
William's parents were listed as George Ferguson and Sophia Farquharson. They were married on 24 May 1895.[4]
George Ferguson was born illegitimately in Braemar in February 1852. His parents were (another) William Ferguson and Isabella McHardy.
The above details were obtained from the WDYTYA TV episode.
Research Notes
There is no birth record for a Dora Jean Paton. Could she have been born Dora Jane?[5]
