Edith Ferree Anthony of East Lackawannock Township (Mercer), passed away at 7 p.m. Thursday (6-5-14) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. She was 80.
Born July 12, 1933, on a dairy farm in Princeton, Pa., Mrs. Anthony was a daughter of Lawrence "Shorty" Ferree and Edna Mae Shelar.
She was a graduate of New Castle High School in 1951.
Her husband, Gerald “Pete” Anthony, whom she married on Oct. 23, 1954, and with whom she was to celebrate a 60th wedding anniversary in October, passed three years later in the Fall of 2017.
After they were married, she accompanied her military husband to many states, including New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Alabama as well as Washington D.C. with the exception of a remote tour duty in Korea and Vietnam.
She enjoyed traveling to various state parks and visiting friends.
Most of all, Edie enjoyed her children and grandchildren. In 1998, Edie self-published a Ferree genealogy entitled: Descendants of Jacob Ferree and Anna Herbst[1].
She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Mercer, where she served as a deacon and elder.
Besides her husband, she left: two daughters, a son and a brother and his wife. She was also survived by eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 110 E. Market St., Mercer, on June 14 with Dr. William P. Crooks, pastor of Trinity Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial was at Mt. Herman Cemetery[2], Princeton, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
