Lydia was born in 1884. She is the daughter of Samuel Ferrell and Sarah Block.
Born Lydia Edna Ferrell on Nov. 20, 1884 in Logan County, West Virginia, where she was educated. On Oct. 31, 1905, she married Martin S. Markuson at Williston, and they homesteaded near Larson, ND.
In 1909 they moved into Williston. Martin died in 1955. Lydia was a pioneer western North Dakota resident. She and Martin had four daughters, Irene (James) McCarten, Edith (Howard) Amsterberg, Cordelia (George) Wilder and Viola (Wayne) Pfeiffer, and two sons, Kenneth (Myrtle) Markuson, and Joseph (Rosanna) Markuson. At the time of her death, she had 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grand children and one great-great grandson.
