James Joseph Ferris was born on 27 June 1858 in Enniskellen, County Fermanagh, Ireland, the son of James Ferris (b.1816) and Elizabeth Rutherford (b.1821)[1] and his some of his siblings were Mary Ann Ferris, John Ferris, Margaret Ferris, Edward Ferris and Robert Ferris [2].
He arrived in Australia, as a 4 year old, on the 29th November 1862 aboard the "Eastern Empire". with his parents and five of his siblings [2].
He married Elizabeth Ann Trimble on 14 March 1878 in Armidale, New South Wales Australia,[3] and they were the parents of of Isabella Ferris, Elizabeth Ferris, William Ferris, Louisa Ferris, James Ferris, Rachel Ferris, Annie Ferris, Edward Ferris, Norman Ferris, Violet Ferris, Matilda Ferris and Roy Ferris.
James died on 28 March 1940 in Armidale, New South Wales Australia [4] and he was buried in the Armidale General Cemetery, Armidale, New South Wales Australia

↑Obituary:Innes Examiner (NSW: 1908 - 1954) Sat 30 Mar 1940 Page 5 Obituary MR. J. J. FERRIS:Mr. J. J. Ferris, the last member of one of the oldest New England families, died in the Armidale and New England Hospital yesterday evening at the age of 82 years. Until recently deceased had enjoyed excellent health. He had been ill for only three weeks. Mr. Ferris was a native of Fermanagh county, Ireland, and came to Australia when only two or three years of age. The family settled at Dumaresq. Deceased had lived at the farm known as "Millbank," Dumaresq, for 70 years. Mrs. Ferris predeceased her husband by seven years. Six daughters and five sons survive. Daughters are Mesdames I. Gardner (Baerami Creek, Muswellbrook), F. E. Manuel (New castle), J. D. Hamilton (Guyra), R. Short ("Millbank"), W. Maguire (Armidale) and C. G. Skewes (Rocky River). Sons are Messrs. W. (Inverell), J. (Boonoo Boonoo), Tenterfield, E. (Kentucky), and N. and R, Ferris (Armidale). The late Mrs. H. Frazier (formerly of Dumaresq), was also a daughter. There are 59 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren Mr. Ferris was a prominent exhibitor, especially of horses, at the Armidale show. He, was also a keen follower of cricket, having been president of the Dumaresq club for a number of years, and he was a staunch member of the Church of England. He was one of the foundation members of the congregation of St. Nicholas' Church, Saumarez Ponds. The funeral, which left St. Peter's Cathedral this afternoon, after service commencing at 2.45 o'clock for the Armidale cemetery, was largely attended. The services at the Cathedral and at the graveside were conducted by Canon A. J. A. Fraser, and Messrs. T. Crowley and Son had charge of the funeral arrangements. During the Cathedral service, the organist, Dr. C. A. Jarman, played the "Dead March in Saul."

Hi Matt, Thanks for this comment. This is my error. They are actually Uncle & Nephew & I have incorrectly added the wrong birth & death details. His father was John Charles Ferris the brother of this John Joseph Ferris. I will reject the merge.
