Biography

Martin Fesmire was born about 1797 in Chatham Co., North Carolina and died about 1880 in Henderson Co., Tennessee. He married Catherine Bray and moved to Henderson Co., Tennessee in 1829. Catherine died before 1845 when Martin and her siblings were involved in a lawsuit over her father's estate back in North Carolina. Martin and Catherine had eight children:

  1. Thomas Elijah Fesmire
  2. John Alston Fesmire
  3. Winnie Caroline Fesmire
  4. Mathias Simeon "Si" Fesmire
  5. Susannah Fesmire
  6. John Roberts Fesmire
  7. Lydia Sophia Fesmire
  8. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Fesmire

About 1853 Martin married Mrs. Pheby Ann (Franklin) Burkett, and they had two daughters:

  1. Mary Jane Fesmire
  2. Martha Ellen Fesmire

Martin Fesmire is buried in an unmarked grave at Antioch Cemetery, Henderson Co., Tennessee.[1]

ANTIOCH COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL

The first settler of Antioch Community was Martin Fesmire. His home was on the present W. R. Wright farm. The oldest house now standing is owned by Mr. Riley Owens and occupied by Mr. Feak Thompson.[2]
