Biography

Christian was born about 1733, presumably in Germany. The Pennsylvania Archives (2nd Series, Vol. 17) lists a Johannes Facemeyer who arrived on 20 October, 1752 of the ship Wittenberg, from Rotterdam, last stop Cowes, England.

A 22-year-old servant named Christian Fismeyer ran away from Reading Furnace, Pennsylvania, in 1755, according to a notice in the Germantown paper.

On 17 Oct 1756 "Maria Margaretha Fesmeier - father Christian, wife Helena" was baptized by Pastor Daniel Schumacher of the Schwarzwald Church, about 15 miles east of Reading Furnace, Pennsylvania. Evidently both his wife and child died.

Christian Fitzmire and John Fitzmire are listed with Capt. Hambright's Troop of Horse camped at Rays Town (later Bedford) on 11 Jul 1758 (Pennsylvania Archives, Fifth Series, Vol. 1) during the French and Indian War.

On 10 Jun 1765 "Christian Fesemeyer and Martha Nesmit" were married at St Michael's and Zion Lutheran Church in Philadelphia. Martha's parents, Arthur and Eleanor Nesmith left her their 180-acre farm in Oxford Township in 1775. Christian later bought more land and expanded his holdings.

Christian and Martha had five children who were baptized 13 Apr 1780 in St. Michael's.

Research Notes

Perhaps this Johannes Facemeyer was Christian's father or brother. I believe he is the father of our Martin Fesmire. I have no proof, but that fits with our family story that "two brothers came from Germany/Prussia named John and Christine" - imagine the German pronunciation of Christian - passed down 200 years to me by my grandfather Cecil Fesmire in Humboldt, Tennessee in the mid-20th century. --Alice Ann Fesmire
