Biography

Asahel Field was born in Massachusetts in about 1803 to Solomon Field and Ruth Porter .

Asahel married Fanny Fay on March 5, 1829 in Concord, Erie, New York. [1] [2] They had eight children.

At least three of Asahel and Fanny's children - Sophronia, Sanford and Emerson - were born in Concord, Erie, New York from 1830 to 1836. [3]

By 1840, Asahel and Fanny and children had relocated to Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York where their son, Charles, was born. [4]

In 1850, Asahel and Fanny still lived in Little Valley with their six children ranging in age from 2 to 18.[5]

In 1855, Asahel, 51, was in Little Valley with his wife, Fanny, 45, and children, Emerson, 19; Charles, 15; Lucretia, 13; Chauncey, 9; Clark, 6; and Elmer, 4. He was a farmer. Asahel and Fanny had been residents of Little Valley for 17 years (since 1838). [6]

Asahel was still a farmer in Little Valley in 1860. In his household were his wife, Fanny; sons, Charles, Chauncey, Clark, Elmer, and daughter, Lucretia.[7] By 1865, Emerson as well was back in the family home in Little Valley.[8]

Asahel and Fanny lived in Little Valley at the time of the 1870 United States Census. Included in the household were his grown sons, Charles, Clark and Elmer, as well as Clark's wife, Susan, age 21 and born in Pennsylvania. [9]

In 1875, Asahel, age 72, and Fanny, age 66, shared their home in Little Valley with their youngest son, Elmer.[10]

Asahel died in 1878 and was buried in Annis Cemetery, Little Valley, Cattaraugus, New York. [11]
