Birth and Upbringing: Andrew Field was born in Whitstable, Kent, England in 1953. [1] [2]
He was the son of Leslie Field and Joyce Waller and has two brothers, Martin and Stephen.
Own Family: He married Marguerite Hedges on 23 October 1976 at the BSA Police Chapel, Salisbury, Rhodesia, [3] [4] and together they had two children, Leanne and Janine.
Migration: During his youth, Andrew migrated with his parents to Southern Rhodesia [5] and has lived most of his life in Zimbabwe, living first in Gwelo, later moving to Umtali in the Eastern Highlands.
Education: He was schooled in Umtali at Chancellor, then Umtali junior schools, then Umtali Boys High School.
Occupation: Policeman, Accountant, Businessman: Andrew worked and lived in both Salisbury/Harare and Fort Victoria/Masvingo as a police officer (member of the British South Africa Police). Andrew was an officer in the Special Branch - Counter Terrorism Desk (Branch I Central Intelligence Organisation) deployed in a military intelligence role at Joint Operations Command Repulse during the Rhodesian insurgency (also referred to as the Zimbabwe liberation war). He studied Information Technology and Computer Science with University of South Africa, and later trained as a company secretary/accountant. He was later employed successively in the tobacco, seed and poultry industries, before venturing into his own businesses, dealing in frozen foods distribution in Harare and north eastern Zimbabwe. Andrew was also involved in the credit bureau business and owns a Harare based bureau. President of the British South Africa Police Regimental Association 2021-2024.
Honours and Awards: Honorary Life Vice President of the BSA Police Regimental Association; Fellow of the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe; Zimbabwean Long and Exemplary Service Medal. In 2021 he was elected President of the BSA Police Regimental Association.
