William Fielder was born on the 16th January, 1795 and baptised in Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales, on the 22nd February, 1795.[1][2] He was the son of 2nd fleet convict William Fielder aka Fubbs and his wife Sarah who came free on the 2nd fleet.
He married free settler Mary Ann Dalton at St Phillips Church of England, Sydney, on the 3rd of October, 1814.[3][4]
in 1828 William was a shipwright living with Mary Ann and their family in Cambridge St. Sydney, the household included: Maria (aged 13 years), Emma (11), Sarah J (9), Mary A (7), William (5), Elizabeth (3), Robert (2) and Louisa (2 mo.)[5]
William died on 2 Feb 1866 in Auckland, New Zealand. He was described in the death notice: "... many years master shipwright, in Sydney, father of Mrs Robert Ashton, and Mrs Francis Robertson, of Penrith, in his 71st year, native of Sydney, New South Wales[6]
William inherited land from his father that is now the location of Science House at The Rocks, Sydney.[7]

Sydney : Library of Australian History, 1993 Text: In his will which was written in about December 1811, William's father (also William) left a house and garden at 45 Cambridge Street the Rocks to him. William Jr. was at that time described as an apprentice shipwright. No mention was made in his father's will of his brother Robert Samuel who was a seaman.
