Samuel Fillingham was christened on 10 Jan 1840 at the church of St Mary the Virgin in Prescot, Lancashire. He was the son of Samuel and Phoebe Fillingham. His father's occupation was recorded as collier, and the family's address as Eccleston.

By June 6th 1841, they were living in Springfield Row, Eccleston. Ann Fillingham aged 60-64, probably Samuel's father's mother, was living with them.
