Isaac passed away on 27 March, 1853 in Berrien County, Michigan followed with burial at the Harris Cemetery in Lake Michigan Beach, Berrien County, Michigan.

At the beginning of the War of 1812 Isaac joined the 7th Regiment of the New York Militia. Three of his brothers, Charles, Abraham, and Benoni, also signed up. The following year Isaac and his brothers followed his father Moses and moved to Franklin County, Indiana. In 1814 land entry records of Franklin County Isaac K. Finch is listed in Township 10. Range 1, sec. 27, and his father Moses is listed in sec. 36.

In 1833 he joined his brothers in Berrien County, Michigan where he bought 80 acres of land. In 1837 five of his brothers moved on to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and in 1840 Isaac joined them again. On December 10, 1840, he bought 17 acres in Jefferson, WI. In 1842 he was a delagate of the Democratic Whig Party and participated in a meeting of the party at the capital in Madison. In 1845, Isaac returned to Michigan where his "Grand Mother" and his five children were living.

History of Berrien Co.

In 1845, Isaac settled in Hagar, in Niles Twp., Michigan with his wife (Hannah Deyo), five children, and Mrs. Kimme, his grandmother, Isaac bought 40 acres of land in section 12. The Finches stopped with Mathias Farnum until they erected a log cabin upon their place. Alexis D. Finch, another of the sons, bought at the same time 50 acres of Mr. Farnum, on section 13, and there he still resides. The elder Finch lived with his son Isaac until his death in 1853. Of Mr. Finch's five children, who came to Hagar with him, those living in Hagar are Alexis D., Sarah Finch, and Mrs. William HUYCK (nee Jane Finch). When Mr. Finch settled in Hagar the only families residing on the west side of the river were the Bundys, Farnums, McCreas, and Lambs. Mr. Isaac Finch's grandmother, Mrs. Kimme*, reached the advanced age of 92, when she died in Hagar. She was buried upon the Farnum place. Her father, who died in New York, was 114 when he died.

  • The book erroneously identified Mrs. Kimme as Isaac's grandmother when she was really his grandmother's sister: her name was Margaret Clark Kimme, born 3/15/1757 and died 4/3/1848 in Hagar Township, buried on the Farnum place.
