Abel was born in 1812 in Pennsylvania. He married about 1836 to Elizabeth Janet Cross. He was a poor farmer living in 1840 & 1850 in Albion, Calhoun county, Michigan. In 1850, he had 5 cows, 2 swine all worth $75. By 1860, he had moved to Walton, Eaton county, Michigan where his farm was valued at $1800, including 5 cattle, 2 oxen, 7 swine, with 12 bushels of wheat and 50 bushels of corn during the previous year. By 1877, he had moved to Quincy, Branch county, Michigan where he passed away.
Burial in June 1877 at the Lake View Cemetery, Quincy, Branch County, Michigan.
