Biography

Ebenezer was born in 1738. He was the son of John Finch and Sarah Lockwood. He married Hannah Newman in about 1753. Different sources credit him with two or three children. The birth places of these children also seem to be in dispute. It is unclear how long after 1768 that he passes on, but Thummel does believe that he passed on at Greenville, Greene County, New York (certainly the two sons most authorities agree on, have family buried in Greene County, NY).

Ebenezer Finch is listed as Number 311-18 in this text.
Further data below.
Born - 1734 Stamford Connecticut.
Died - Greenville, Greene County, NY
Married - 1753 Hannah Newman, she born 1734
Apr. 5, 1748. Ebenezer listed as a minor, mother Sarah appointed guardian.
Aug. 2, 1750, he shared in distribution of his fathers estate.
June 15, 1768, shared in distribution of the estate of his mother Sarah.
Children listed below
EZRA, born Aug.4,1757, Horseneck
SETH, born 1753.
AMOS, born Sept. 12, 1754.
NOTES about the children - The data shown here is as Thummel lists it, with the 1757 date and EZRA coming before the 1753 and 1754 birth dates of Seth and Amos. Familysearch only shows sons Amos and Ezra. Moving to the individual pages within Thummel's work, we find further clarity, with Ezra born August 1757 at Stamford, removing to Westchester County, NY, then Greene County, NY after the Rev War. Seth, born "about 1755", wife Rhoda she born 1761 and died August 5, 1809 at age 48 Census data 1790-1810 at Salem/S.Salem in Westchester Co, NY. Finally Amos born Sept 22, 1754 at Bedford Westchester Co, NY - this being incongruous with earlier data stating that most of them moved to NY State after the Rev. War. Married Martha Rowe, daughter of Thomas Rowe. Extensive military data. It would be interesting to cross this data with that given by Paul R. Finch.
On the page following Ebenezer's profile, Thummel presents a bible record. Below is his presentation with commentary in ( ). I will add more notes afterward.
Copied from a Bible by Mrs L.J.Rossi, Ravena,N.Y.
(Thummel gives us the complete title page of the bible including that it was printed in London. No date)
On front page are initials "M M F 1782"- (no idea what this means)
also Pfenninger 1792. (this means something when combined with next line)
On following page date 1850 and below this, Miss Corbetta Williams June 2 1880. Presented by a true friend. (Thummel isn't clear if the 1850 date is printed by the printers, or if it is written by hand. However, it is clear that this bible was presented to Corbetta Williams on June 2, 1880).
On center page between Old and New Testament (here Thummel seems to indicate that the Bible Miss Pfenninger receives is actually a used bible.)
Ebenezer Finch + Hannah Newman 1753 (This probably the year of their marriage)
Amos Finch + Martha Rowe 1784 (From above, we can surmise the following marriage dates, however, Amos and Ezra are brothers; Ebenezer who married Mary Blaisdell is a cousin of Samuel Finch who marries Anna Bush. The Rachel Finch and Silas Finch, I have still not discovered)
Ezra Finch + Ruth Townsend 1784
Ebenezer Finch + Mary Blaisdell 1816
Samuel Finch + Anna Bush 1822
Rachel Finch + Cornelius Vail 1861
Silas Finch + Elizabeth Winne, Nov.25,1875
On margin of page Psalms, Chap XLVIII Verse 13 marked with dash on inside margin is
Amos Finch Sept.12,1754 (these perhaps birth dates for these two).
Martha Rowe Feb.19,1767.
On page of Psalms Chap XCI on margin
Silas Finch July 18,1838. (these too must be birth dates).
Elizabeth Winne, Kay 6 1859 - This is all.
NOTES - Have discovered that "Miss Corbetta Williams", married Antoine Frei Pfenninger on 30 September 1880 in Manhattan. She was of Newport, Wales, UK and apparently lived in England and Wales often. By 1905, she is shown as "widowed" and living with 2 daughters Pfenninger ages 23 and 21, both born in the UK. She dies in 1931 and is [buried in Connecticut], presumably with her eldest daughter who died in 1922 (though I can find no trace of her daughter's burial on Findagrave). Looking into her history, and her daughter's marriages, I can find NO connection to the Finch Family. Furthermore, the inclusion of Silas Finch and Rachel Finch is also perplexing, and they seem to be from a different family than those descended from Ebenezer Finch and Hannah Newman.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ebenezer by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ebenezer:
