Conflict

Mercy Skillman was not his mother. There were 3 John Fines in NY at the same time, 2 were German 1 was Dutch. Mercy married the Dutchman and lived and died in NY. The Skillman Family Association believes that Mercy Skillman married John Fyn.

The other John arrived in New York in 1717 from Germany. This is the only record of this man. No proof that this man is the John who died in Sussex 1759.

Fine DNA Project

There is a Fine DNA Project at Family Tree DNA (FTDNA). There are 13 men who have taken Y-DNA test who descend from this John Fine and they all match. Their haplogroup is consistent with those from Germany. There are no men tested, who descend from the New York Dutch family yet. If you are a man with the surname of Fine and wish to participate in the Y-DNA testing, it is recommended to order a 37 marker test at FTDNA. Glen Fine is the Admin of the project

YDNA results of descendants of this man place him in Group 1 of the Fine DNA Project. According to Glen Fine the admin of the project, this man was not the progenitor of the Fine Family in America or of Group 1 in the project. He was likely a brother of several progenitors of the descendants in Group 1.
Autosomal DNA Match: Kari Lemons descends from Elizabeth Fine Leming and has autosomal DNA matches to descendants of Elizabeth Cynthia Fine Henry and Vinett Fine.
