He served as the mayor of the New Zealand town of Te Kuiti from April 1917[4] until he resigned in late 1920.[5] George was knighted as a Knight Bachelor in 1955.[6]
He passed away in Auckland, New Zealand, in 1970.[7][8][9] His body was cremated on 10 November and the ashes interred on 20 November, both at the city's Purewa Cemetery.[9][10]
