SOLDIER'S DEATH - CONTRACTED MENINGITIS - IN CAMP ONLY FEW DAYS
Entering a military camp ten days ago, Mr. Cullen John Finlayson of Kiripaka, Whangarei, contracted meningitis from which he died in the Auckland Public Hospital yesterday.
Aged 40, he was a son of Mrs. and the late Mr. John Finlayson, also of Kiripaka, where he was born. He was educated at King's College and after leaving school assisted in the management of his-father's property.
Upon his marriage to Miss Jean Lewis, of Cambridge, he controlled portion of the Kiripaka Estate, upon which he remained until he voluntarily entered the army. Mr. Finlayson was taken ill on Wednesday and was removed to hospital.
His only brother, Irven Finlayson, went overseas with the First Echelon.
