Biography
Lewdy Finlayson is a part of US Black heritage.
Lewdy was born about 1835. She was enslaved by John Finlayson (1810-1865) on Glendower Plantation in Jefferson County, Florida. Finlayson is being used as her last name at birth, until her actual name can be determined.
In his will dated 23 Feb 1865, John Finlayson (1810-1865) bequeathed a large number of slaves to his wife, Augustine Florida (Shehee) Finlayson (1826-1882), and children. It is not known who was bequeathed Lewdy.[1]
Lewdy was listed in the probate appraisement paperwork in 1865, as being 30 years old and having a value of $900.[2]
