Biography

Dick Finlayson is a part of US Black heritage.

Dick was born about 1860. He was enslaved by John Finlayson (1810-1865) on Glendower Plantation in Jefferson County, Florida. Finlayson is being used as his last name at birth, until his actual name can be determined.

In his will dated 23 Feb 1865, John Finlayson (1810-1865) bequeathed a large number of slaves to his wife, Augustine Florida (Shehee) Finlayson (1826-1882), and children. Dick was bequeathed to the enslaver John's son, Daniel Alysbury Finlayson, listed as Daniel in the chart on the Glendower Plantation in Jefferson County, Florida page.^[1]

Dick was listed in the probate appraisement paperwork in 1865, as being 5 years old and having a value of $300.^[2]
