John Evans Finley was born on 23 September 1849 in Redstone Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania and died 11 August 1919 in New Salem, Fayette County, Pennsylvania of acute dilatation of heart. He was buried at Oak Grove Cemetery South Union Township, Fayette County, Pennsylvania.[1] John was the son of Robert Finley and Ann Hunford.

1880 Census record listed Ruth Hazlett as daughter in law of John Finley, however, she was the sister of his wife, Josephine.
