Biography

Elizabeth was born about 1755.

Several ancestry.com trees give Elizabeth Finley as the mother of many children born to her and Adams Ferguson (1743-1822) between 1774 and 1820. However, it seems doubtful that this couple produced so many children for 46 years of childbearing, with the next to last child born in 1820 to a mother about 65 years old. More likely, there was a missing generation, possibly an Adams Ferguson Jr., in between. Since the censuses of 1810 and 1820 list an Adams Ferguson, but no age, it could be either a father or his son having all of these later born children. If there was an Adams Ferguson Jr. born about 1880-1885 who had a younger wife than Elizabeth Finley, that could explain the later born children. Perhaps DNA can help us sort this out eventually. Meanwhile I am not including any of them on wikitree, stopping with Samuel Yancey Ferguson born 1800 when Elizabeth Finley was about 45 years old, and his father Adams Ferguson was 57. Not too unusual for this era.
