Biography

Uriah, who was most often known as Uri, was born 28 May 1805 in Massachusetts.[1] He was the son of Abraham and Huldah (Gifford) Finney.

Uri married Mary Graves, likely around 1826/1827. The couple would have six children during their nearly 50 year marriage.

He worked as a boot and shoe maker in the town of Groton, NY.[2]

He passed away on 31 Mar 1876 and is buried at the Groton Rural Cemetery in the town he called home for so many years.[3]

Research Notes

The subject's name appears in every record reviewed as "Uri", with few exceptions: [3][4] This section, taken from a Tompkins County business directory, states that Uriah is foreman of a shoe shop, even confirming that he is in Groton, which correlates with the 1860 census in Groton that shows his occupation as a shoe maker.[2]

Although the Authored Narrative[5] states the date of birth as "28 May 1804 or 1805" we believe, by taking the data from the census source sited above and that on the grave marker shown on Find a Grave[3] it is 1805.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Uri by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Uri:
