" Hulda was the daughter of Stephen Michael Sawyer and Margaret "Peggy" Jarman. She married John Edward Ficher on 27 Nov 1856 in Macon Co., IL. He was born in Germany and relocated to Staunton at age 20 (changing his name from Fischer to Fisher) His parents were grocers. At a young age, he owned and operated a wholesale grocery business in Staunton. He then managed large hotels in Memphis, TN. Soon after their marriage they purchased the beautiful "Taylor Estate" on the outskirts of Staunton. After her husband's death in June of 1872, Hulda and her children returned to the Staunton area, locating in Madison County. Then, in 1887 she and her children followed her oldest daughter Fanny and her husband Doc Spence to Spokane, WA. In 1896 she and her children moved to Wallace, Idaho where they lived for the next 9 years. Her last wish was to be taken back to Spokane, WA to be buried there. Hulda is the mother of Josephine "Fanny", Martha Ellen, Flora Margaret, John Edward, Charles Theodore and Frederick William. " Sue McCain (Credit)
