His German surname Fischer soon after his arrival in America became spelt Fisher, which is what the name means.
Leonhardt wed Barbara Stegle on 7 October 1800 in Wyhl, Emmendingen, Baden (now Baden-Württemberg, Germany). They had the following children:
Anton Anthony Fischer, 1802–1882;
Anna Maria Rosa Fischer, 1804–1808;
Maria Magdalena (Fischer) Schmidt, 1807–1896;
Genovefa Fischer, 1810–1840;
Andreas Andrew Fischer, 1812–1902;
Juliana Fischer, 1815–1818.
In 1840 Leonhard Fisher is recorded living in Jackson, Perry county, Ohio. 
Leonhardt Fischer died on 24 September 1843 in Somerset, Perry county, Ohio, and was buried there at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
