Biography

At the time of the 1900 US Census, Robert/Ray and his brother are living with their mother in their paternal grandmother's household in Wilson Township, Missouri. Both of the women are widowed.[1]
The 1910 Census indicates that Ray and Harry are stepsons to Frank Macklin.[2]
Ray continues to live with his mother and stepfather in Kirksville, Missouri at the time of the 1920 Census.[3]
On New Year's Eve in 1923, Ray marries Margaret Ella Cundiff in Los Angeles, California. He gives his parents' names as Robert Fiscus and V Fowler. He gives his occupation as "baker."[4]
Ray passed away on 23 Sep 1938. His obituary is found on Find-a-Grave, and it indicates that he served in World War I under Capt. Dale Heinz. He was in Tennessee when he fell ill and subsequently passed away.[5] He was married to Margaret Cundiff and they apparently had no children. His mother's maiden name is given as "Fowler," and only his father's initials -- R.C. -- are given.[6]

Birthdate Issues

Census records give his year of birth as 1895[2][3]; however, his grave marker indicates 1896, and a comment on his Find-a-Grave memorial says that the Illinois Death Index gives 1893.[6]
