William Fish was married 14 Jun 1716 by Justice William Hall to Mary Bennett, daughter of Robert and Anne (Cory) Bennett. Together they had at least eight children: [3]
William Fish married second (by Justice John Dexter) on 15 Mar 1737 / 38 to Mary Shrieve, daughter of John and Jane (Haven) Shrieve of Portsmouth. In his later years, he married a third time to Amy (unknown), who survived him when he died in 1764. [3]
His will is dated 25 April 1764 and proved on 10 October 1768 in Tiverton, Rhode Island.[4] His inventory was taken on 30 September 1768.[4]
Research Notes
William Fish was willed land in Tiverton, Rhode Island, which remained in the Fish family until 1930, when it was sold by the widow of Henry Fish. Upon this land occurred the "Battle of Tiverton," also known as the "Swamp Fight," or the "Battle of Pocasset," and of no small importance in King Philip's War. It took place south of the present northern boundary of Tiverton, Rhode Island in a cedar swamp, east of the Fish Road and west of the Stafford Pond. [3]
In the old Fish Cemetery located upon this farm, over 100 of the Fish family were buried. All of them known to John Shrieve Fish, but he left no record of them and no stones mark the grave sites. [3][5]
