Biography

Josiah Fish was born about April 1763 (age at death),[1] probably in the town of Barnstable, Massachusetts Bay, the son of Reuben and Mary (Meiggs) Fish. Josiah Fish was named in his father Reuben Fish's will dated 14 September 1807 and proved 12 December 1809.[2]

Marriages & Children

He married Thankful Smith on 17 October 1787 in Barnstable[3] after intentions were published there on 20 August 1785.[4]

[Note - a child was born to them in March 1786, and another in Dec. 1787, so the marriage year may be in error in the transcription or in the original records.]

He married, secondly, to Jemima Jones about 1799[5]

Death, Burial & Legacy

Josiah Fish died on 22 Jun 1848 in Barnstable aged 85 years and nine months,[6] and was buried in the West Barnstable Cemetery.[1][7]

An inventory of the estate of Josiah Fish. late of Barnstable deceased, was presented on 16 April 1849.[8] Isaac Fish was granted administration on the estate of Josiah Fish of Barnstable. He presented an accounting 08 January 1850 which mentioned a claim paid to Lydia Smith, wife of Thomas Smith, by compromise. A second accounting was presented on 12 February 1850 by Isaac Fish.[9]

Isaac Fish was assigned administration on the estate of Josiah Fish, yeoman of Barnstable, on 09 January 1849,[10] amd made a bond to administer the estate.[11][12]
