Biography

This was the third listed child of John & Mary (Ireland) Fish, per the Fish family anthology. It is probable that he accompanied his parents during at least the early part of their migrations through southern Connecticut-- Stratford, New London, then the Groton/Stonington area, where they settled in 1655.

Wheeler (1900) states: "Miss Caulkins in her History of New London says that John Fish appeared there early in 1655 with wife and children, whose names she gives as John, Jonathan and Samuel. There are no records of the birth of these children in Stratford."

In the Fish Family anthology (1948) Jonathan is listed in birth order before his sister Mary, for whom a birth year 1654 has been estimated, so an estimated birth year for Jonathan before 1654 is plausible.
