Henry Peterfish was born on 28 Sep 1791 in Rockingham County, Virginia, United States, to Johann Christian Peterfish. It is believed that the surname "Peterfish" is an anglicization of the German surname "Beiterfisch", which is pronounced similarly. Descendants shortened the surname to just "Fish".
