Biography

NOTE: Observe care not to confuse this person with Moses Fish IV (1789-1839), who was born 3 October 1789 at Voluntown, son of Jerusha (Phillips) & Moses Fish, who was the spouse of Susan J. Reynolds.

This Moses Fish, born about 25 Oct 1789 at Groton, Connecticut, was a son of Lydia Fish (1761-1848) and Ebenezer Fish (abt.1757-1827).

His online memorial site enumerates him as the fifth of 10 children, hence providing a slight clue as to the birth order of his siblings.

He married first, 10 May 1814, Elizabeth Brainard, who died Aug. 19, 1823; their children were:

After his first wife died, Moses Fish married second, 22 Jan 1824 in Brooklyn Twp., Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Harriet Chester [1]. According to Moses's online memorial site, Harriet was a family friend from back in Connecticut. They had 7 children:

  2. Harriet Fish (1828-1864); married 18 Nov 1852, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, Edward S. Allen

Moses Fish died 14 Apr 1840 at Brooklyn (Cuyahoga County), Ohio. His grave is in Denison Cemetery, Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, USA [2].

Notes

According to his online memorial site, After Moses and his 2nd wife Harriet died in 1840, Alex Ingham (Moses' brother-in-law; spouse of Moses' sister, Lydia Fish) was awarded guardianship over their minor orphan children.
