Biography

History of the Fisher Generation : Past Two Hundred Years or More By Dorothy Fisher

Thomas and Elizabeth Fisher were born in England. Two children were born to them - Mary and Thomas, Jr. Thomas Jr. was kidnapped and brought to America and sold to an undertaker named Speck at the age of ten. Thomas, Sr., died about two years later. The mother and daughter started for America to see if she could locater her son. In sight of land at Baltimore the mother died. They brought her to shore and the son buried her. He did not know it was his mother until a few years later. In England it was the ruling to teach the children who their parents were, where they lived, and what their names were. In this way it was easier for them to find their relations. Mary found her brother by printing signs and putting them on fence posts and on sides of buildings. Thomas Jr. married a German girl, and the first generation made their homes in and around Baltimore. James and Elizabeth Fisher came to Hanover to live, raised their families, and are buried there. General Custer's mother was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Fisher. George and Kathryn Fisher came to Fisher's Station and raised a family of seven, four boys and three girls. Their names were: George, John, James, Henry, Betty, Polly and Sarah. James married a girl by the name of Kathryn Lenhart. They moved to Port Washington and then later moved to Fallen Timbers. They had five children - Elizabeth, James, Peter, Sarah, and Mary. Henry and Elizabeth Fisher died and were buried at Rush Cemetery. James, Kathryn, Elizabeth, and Peter were buried at Mount Carmel. Henry Fisher married Sarah Johnson at Fallen Timbers on March 21, 1867. To them were born nine children - Ross, Charles, Frank, Henry, Harry, Robert, James, May, and Jasper. Sarah Fisher died May 28, 1906 at Uhrichsville, Ohio. Henry Fisher married Anna Eddy. A few years later Henry passed away on November 11, 1912.

(note: Dorothy seems to have confused the Elizabeth Fisher who married David Custer and had a son named George Custer with the infamous general. Henry's daughter Viola May did marry a distant relative of General Custer, however.)
