• Harriet Agnes FISHER was born at 5.30 pm on the 07 April 1885 at Avenal Invercargill or perhaps Longbush Invercargill New Zealand. Harriet’s later baptism confirmed the date of birth. Her parents were Margaret Isabella formerly LESTRANGE and Edward Alexander FISHER.

• I have been unable to locate the Invercargill birth registration to confirm the date of birth, but Harriet’s youngest daughter Vera confirmed the birth date of her mother Harriet as 07 April 1885. Some official government registration documents record the place of birth as [1] Avenal and [2] Longbush Invercargill.

Catholic Church baptism

• Harriet Mary FISHER (known as Harriet Agnes FISHER) was born 07 April 1885 and baptised 20 April 1894 in Waikiwi Invercargill. Her parents were recorded as Margaret and Edward FISHER. Mary GAVIN was her godmother and the Officiating Minister was Father N VEREKER. Harriet was baptised 2 days after her older sister Charlotte. Harriet was 9 years old when she was baptised. (Reference Parish baptism register 8 number 591 Catholic Diocesan Archives, 300 Rattray Street, Dunedin).

Harriett’s father Edward FISHER wrote on a piece of paper details of his daughter birth which reads; “Harriet born at Averial Invercargill on 7 th April 1885 at 5.30 pm.” (Reference a piece of paper written by Edward Alexander Fisher and handed down to grandchildren Vera Harris married surname McDermott in New Zealand and later handed to Vera brother Richard Harris in Australia).

Avenal is a suburb of Invercargill and Longbush is situated on the outskirts of Invercargill. Further details about both districts can be found in the New Zealand Dolimore directory” publication.
