MR. LUKE FISHER.
The sudden demise of Mr. Luke Fisher, at his residence at Silverleigh, on Friday morning last, came as a great surprise to the district. Mr. Fisher, as a matter of act, had been for years a sufferer from asthma, and this had brought about a state of health so impaired that an attack of influenza was sufficient to cause his death, which took place at 3.30 a.m. on the morning indicated.
The late Mr. Fisher, who had attained the age of 61 years, came to this district about the year 1884, and was employed by Messrs. Cribb and Kingston on what was then known as the Boah Peak Estate, part of which he subsequently purchased, and where he had resided ever since. About 34 years ago he married Miss Kingston, (daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Kingston), and who survives him. Their family included four sons and four daughters, of these, Captain Stanley Fisher, is in Melbourne representing the Fruit Growersers' Association; Miss Estelle Fisher was a sister in the A.M.C. during the war, and Sister Maud Fisher is at present a nurse in the Brisbane Children's Hospital; Mr. Roy Fisher is in the Q.N. Bank at Rockhampton, the younger members of the family being at home.
Mr Fisher was for some years chairman of directors of the Goombungee Butter Factory, and besides this served his country as a J.P. He was born at Oxley, near Brisbane, and was contemporary with Messrs. Fitzgibbon and Bickerstaffe.
The Funeral took place last Sunday afternoon, the remains being interred in the Oakey cemetery. A very large attendance from all round the district testified to the deep respect in which the deceased and his family are held. The ceremony was conducted by Rev. J. T. Perry, at St. Augustine's Church and at the graveside the funeral arrangements being in the hands of Mr. Burstow.
