He was the son of Adam Fisher and Christina See[1]
He married Catherine Skidmore, born c. 1766, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Phares) Skidmore. Jacob received a land grant (Gr. 62, p. 103) from the Commonwealth of Virginia...[2]
They were the parents of several children of which the following are known, viz: 1. Frana, born c. 1800, married Tobias Cogar, 2. Solomon, born c. 1801, married Catherine Clifton, dau. of John, 3. Susan, born May 22 1802, died June 20 1895, married William Cutlip, son of Henry and Mary (Lewis) Cutlip, 4. Barbara, born, c. 1803, married Thomas McElwain, son of Tunis and Elizabeth (Probst) McElwain.[3]
Jacob Fisher died October 14 1846 and his widow Catherine died November 16 1850. They are buried at the Marpleton Cemetery on Holly in Braxton County.[4]
"Jacob Fisher was a Revolutionary War soldier. enlisting in Rockingham and Hardy Counties, Virginia, at the age of 16 or 17, in the fall of 1776 and served until 1781. One of his tours was as a substitute for his father. He received a pension for his services on Sept. 11, 1833 while living on Holly River near what is now Marpleton, Braxton County, but at that time in Nicholas County. In 1840, he was living with his son-in-law William Cutlip on Holly River. Those persons supporting his claims among others, were Addison McLaughlin and George Fisher, a brother."[5]
