Biography

Mary Fisher was born on May 8, 1772 in Canton and Stoughton, Norfolk, Massachusetts Bay. She was the daughter of Ezekial and Sarah Mary (May) Fisher.

Mary and Elijah Jr. filed intentions to marry on November 17, 1787, both being of Stoughton. They married in Stoughton on December 6, 1787. Quoting: "Decembr [sic] ye 6 Elijah Crane ye 2d & mary [sic] Fisher Both of Stoughton.

Elijah Jr. and Mary removed to Exeter, Penobscot County, Province of Maine sometime after their marriage. They had at least one daughter named Nancy Fisher Crane, who was born in Exeter about 1809, who married William Cullen Smith.

Mary, a widow, married 2nd Abner Tibbets on March 12, 1811 in Eddington Plantation, Province of Maine. This was also Abner's 2nd marriage. Included within this marriage record is Mary's married name, i.e. "Mrs. Mary Fisher Crane" as well as names of her parents. Mary and Abner had at least one child named Elisha G.

Outliving her 2nd husband, Mary passed away at age 77 on September 12, 1849 in Exeter, Penobscot, Maine. She is buried at the Tibbets Cemetery at Exeter Center.
