Biography

Nicholas married Catherine Eccles in 1848 in the registration district of Fylde, Lancashire.[1]

At the 1851 census, Nicholas (26) was living with his wife Catherine (22) and two children in Marton, Lancashire. The children were Thomas (2) and Ann (3 months). Nicholas was an agricultural labourer.[2]

In 1861, he was living with his wife and six children in Blowing Sands in Marton, Lancashire. Their children were Thomas (12), Ann (10), John (8), James (5), William (3) and Mary (1).[3]

In 1891, Nicholas and his wife were living with two children, Robert (24) and Margaret (20), in Blowing Sands, Marton, Lancashire. He was a market gardener.[4]

At the 1901 census, Nicholas (75) was a widower living in Blowing Sands, Marton, Lancashire. He was a retired market gardener. Living with him were his son James (46), married, a bricklayer's labourer, and Lizzie Fisher (46), married, a retired lodging house keeper. She was born in Lincoln and described in the census return as his daughter. The household also included Rachel Fisher (13) and Amy Fisher (6), both born in Blackpool and described as granddaughters.[5]

Nicholas died in 1908, aged 82.[6]
