Reverend Abel Fiske, son of Josiah Fiske and Sarah (Lawrence) was born in Pepperell, Massachusetts on March 28, 1752. He married on August 19, 1783 to Anna Spalding, daughter of Reverend Sampson Spalding, of Tewksbury and then later married Sarah Putnam. He was graduated at Harvard College in the class of 1774, and four years later on November 18, 1778 he was ordained as the successor of Reverend Jonathan Livermore at Wilton, New Hampshire, where he remained until his death. At the time of his ordination 27 male members of the church in a solemn manner renewed their covenant engagements. Fiske continued in the ministry a little more than twenty-three years, and died on April 21, 1802 at the age of 50. During his ministry, including short vacancy between the time of his death and the settlement of his successor, 224 persons were added to the church, and 745 children and others were baptized. Greatly beloved by his flock, who manifested their love by every family in the parish following him to his grave.
