Biography
"...after serving with distinction in the Revolutionary War, married Molly Bosworth, at Lebanon Conn., and after the close of the war, with a number of other young people from his town came in 1793, to Columbia county, New York,... Subsequently in 1810, he removed to the town of Mooers, in Clinton county, New York. He was an architect and builder, whose skill is shown by different churches and public buildings still standing in Columbia and Clinton counties."

Capt. Jabez Fitch died in the 85th year of age. He married Mary "Molly" Bosworth of Lebanon, CT on April 21st, 1779. Mary was born in Lebanon, June 6th, 1754; died at Moores, NY February 9th. 1830 "in the 76. year of her age," She was the daughter of David and Mary (Strong) Bosworth of Lebanon, Ct.
During the Revolutionary War, Jabez enlisted as a Private in Capt. Hobby's Co., Gen. Wooster's 9th Regiment. He was discharged as a Corporal 11th of January 1777, re-enlisted, and served through December 1780 in Col. Will's Regiment. He then organized and drilled a company volunteers and was commissioned Capt. in command of the company. He served as Capt. until March 1st, 1783.
Like his father, Isaac, Jabez was a carpenter and master joiner, constructing several public buildings in Columbia and Washington Counties as well as the Presbyterian Church in Plattsburgh (one of the oldest churches in upstate NY).
Soon after their marriage in 1779, Jabez and Mary removed to Spencertown, Columbia County, NY and then around 1800, Champlain, Clintoon Co. NY. and finally removed about 1816, to Mooers, NY near the Canadian border. Jabez and Mary both are buried at the Old Cemetery (Riverside Cemetery). Mary's stone, gray slate, reads: "At the resurrection of the just her worth shall be disclosed."
Children born Spencertown, Columbia Co. NY - Susannah; Ichabod Bosworth, b. Jan. 1782; Lydia, b. 1785; Isaac, b. Aug. 2, 1786; David, b. March 1, 1791; and Jabez, Jr. b. April 16, 1794.
Capt. Jabez Fitch is the brother of Pvt. Nathaniel Fitch of the Revolutionary War, 1st Conn. Reg. who is buried in the North Steuben Cemetery, North Steuben, NY.
Capt. Jabez Fitch is the son of Isaac, the son of Capt. Nathanial who is the son of the Rev. James Fitch all of Lebanon, CT.[1]
