Biography

Vital Records of Amasa Fitch: Amasa was born in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania on 3 Dec 1780. He is the son of Jonathan Fitch and Esther Sill. Amasa married Sarah "Sally" ____ prb. in New York in abt. 1804. They had (at least) four known children together. Amasa died in Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA on 22 Sep 1862. He is buried with his wife in Jervis Cemetery, Rockdale Twp, Crawford, Pennsylvania, USA.[1]

Census, Land and other Historical Artifacts of Amasa Fitch: There is a set of records regarding land purchases in the area of Bennington Twp., Genesee, New York. One transaction of interest is described as Lot 11, Section 2, Township 10, Range 3. That plot was originally purchased by Hezekiah Howe in 1822, but it reverted back to the Holland Land Company for non-payment, probably around 1830. That tract of land was resold to an Amasa Fitch in 1831. There is also an "Amaza" Fitch shown in the U.S. Federal Census of 1810 for Sidney, Delaware, New York, USA, the birthplace of his son, William H. Fitch. There are three male children, one male adult, two female children and one female adult shown in Amasa's household.[2] By the U.S. Federal Census of 12 Sep 1850, "Amaza" was living in Richmond, Crawford, Pennsylvania with his wife Sarah. Amasa was recorded at age 74 and wife "Sally" recorded at age 72.[3] In the U.S. Federal Census of 16 Jun 1860, Amasa was still living in Richmond Twp. with wife Sarah. Amasa was recorded at age 85 and his wife was recorded at age 80. [4] No more info is currently available for Amasa Fitch. Can you add to his biography?
