Dead Women Was Long Identified with Social Life of Buffalo and Probably Was the Oldest Member of Trinity Church
With the death of Mrs. Martha Fitch Poole yesterday morning Buffalo lost one of its most remarkable women. Mrs. Poole was 85 years old. She died at the home of her son-in-law, Dr. Joseph T. Cook 636 Delaware Avenue.
Mrs. Poole whose maiden name was Martha Fitch, was born in Annsville, Oneida County, Febuary 4, 1818. A few years later she moved to LeRoy. In 1835 she came to Buffalo to live with her aunt, Mrs. Rodman Starkweather. She married the late Rushmore Poole in 1837.
Mrs. Poole was always prominent in Buffalo society. She was perhaps the oldest member of Trinity Church, having attended services there when meetings were held in a building on South Division street even before old Trinity appeared at Washington and Mohawk streets. When a young woman Mrs. Poole sang as soprano in Trinity Church Choir for a number of years. Mrs. Poole is a direct descendant of the Brewsters and Fitchs of Mayflower fame.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Joseph T. Cook, and one grandchild Mrs. Anna Maude Hoxsie. Funeral Services will be held at Dr. Cook's home tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be at Forest Lawn.
