John Fitch, son of John Fitch and Elizabeth (Watterman) Fitch, was born 18 Mar 1704/5 in Windham, Connecticut.[1][2] Probably 1704/5, which makes the death information more accurate.
He married Alice Fitch, daughter of Ebenezer & Bridget (Brown) Fitch on 25 Jan 1730/1 in Windham.[2]
John became a Lt. in the 1st Co. in Windham, May 1730 and 10 years later Oct 1740 was named Capt. He served as Deputy to the Colony Court Oct 1738, May 1739, Oct 1741 and May 1742. He was also a Justice for Windham County in 1744.[3]
Capt. John Fitch died 19 Feb 1760, ae 54y 11mo.[2]His gravestone tells the story of his death. "Here Lyes the Body of Capt. John Fitch Son to Capt. John Fitch & Elisabeth his Wife Who Died with ye Small-pox Feby 19th 1760 Aged 54 years & 11 months."[4] His gravestone is still visible at the Windham Center Cemetery.
