Jabez Fitch was born on 23 May 1728 in Norwich Township, New London, Connecticut, British Colonial America. He was a son of Jabez Fitch Sr. and Lydia (Gale) Fitch.[1][2]
On 22 Aug 1754, Jabez married Lydia Huntington at Newent Congregational Church, Lisbon, New London, Connecticut[3][4], and they made their home in Canterbury, Windham County, Connecticut, where they raised a large family.
Dr. Jabez Fitch was a physician "of considerable eminence" and a contributor to his community. On 25 Jan 1771, he was chosen as deacon of the Canterbury church.[3]
Dr. Jabez Fitch Jr performed Patriotic Service in Connecticut in the American Revolution.
Jabez Fitch Jr is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A039962.
He supported the Patriots during the American Revolution, participating as a member of the Committee of Inspection & Safety. He represented Canterbury as a delegate to the General Assembly in 1777.[15][16]
Dr. Fitch and his family were still living in Connecticut, according to the 1800 Census for Lebanon, Windham County, Connecticut.[17]
Dr. Jabez Fitch passed away on 19 Dec 1806, at the age of 78, in the home of his son, Dr. Chauncy Fitch, in Sheldon, Franklin County, Vermont.[18] He was buried at Sheldon Cemetery, Sheldon, Franklin County, Vermont.[11]
