Desmond FitzJohn Lloyd FitzGerald, 27th Knight of Glin was born on 12 March 1862. He was the son of Desmond John Edmund FitzGerald, 26th Knight of Glin and Isabella Lloyd Apjohn. He married Lady Rachael Charlotte Wyndham-Quin, daughter of Windham Thomas Wyndham-Quin, 4th Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl and Florence Elizabeth Kerr, on 28 October 1897.
He died on 17 September 1936 at age 74.
He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, EnglandG. He gained the title of 27th Knight of Glin in 1895. He gained the rank of Captain in the South Irish Horse. He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of County Limerick. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Limerick. He held the office of High Sheriff of County Limerick in 1904. He gained the rank of Captain in the 3rd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers. He sold Riddlestown Park, which he inherited.
He lived at Glin Castle, County Limerick, IrelandG.2
