Oldest daughter of Charles Stewart Parnell FitzSimons and Marguerita Lilburn
Sr. Margaret Mary FitzSimons, R.S.C. was born in Dublin, Ireland May 9, 1919, and died on March 9th at Marycrest Manor, Culver City, California, after a lengthy illness. Sr. Margaret Mary joined the Religious Sisters of Charity in 1938. She worked in both Ireland and Scotland before coming to the United States. She came to California in 1957, and ministered as a teacher and /or principal in St. Cornelius School in Long Beach (1957-1968), St. Bridget of Sweden in Van Nuys (1968-1974), and Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Los Angeles (1974-1978). In 1978 Sister earned her certification and began her work as administrator of Marycrest Manor, a skilled nursing facility in Culver City, and served there until 1988, after which she worked in development for Marycrest Manor until 2003. In failing health, she became a resident of the nursing home in 2007, where she died March 9, 2013. She was known as a kind and gracious woman who gave her life in service to others. She was proud of her Irish heritage and spent over seventy-five years of her life as a Religious Sister of Charity serving the people of God with great love and respect. She is survived by two sisters, Maureen Blair and Margot Edwards, sisters-in-law Donna FitzSimons and Cherie FitzSimons, and many nieces and nephews.
