Walter was the youngest child of Elhanan Fitzgerald and Courtney Rachel Spence.
He was born in Fairbury, IL in 1874. His World War I draft registration, done when he was 44 years old says that his profession was farming and that he was tall and slender with blue eyes and light hair. Married Ivah Cyrene Walters in 1905. They had two sons, Walter Jr. and Austin. Walter was the sole surviving child of Elhanan and Courtney Fitzgerald when he passed away in 1967 at the age of 92.
Information from 1950 Census: Walter's schooling ended with his completion of the 7th Grade. He never served in the U.S. Armed Forces. In 1950, Walter and his wife, Ivah lived on a farm, where Walter did about 10 hours of chores each week. In 1949, he and his wife had no income.
Walter L. Fitzgerald, 325 South Fulton Street, died in Lee Memorial Hospital Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., after a long illness. He was 93 years old. A retired farmer, he was taken to the hospital from the Cass County Medical Care Facility. He was born July 25, 1874 in Fairbury, IL. He lived in Cassopolis 45 years. He married Ivah Walters April 5, 1905 in Pennfield, IL.
