Biography

Anastatia Fitzgerald was born on 07 November 1907 in Jessfield, Ballingarry, Tipperary, Ireland. [1] On 22 May 1927, Anastatia left Ireland for Braintree, Boston, Massachusetts as a third class passenger on the ship named ‘Cedric’. [2]

On 29 May 1927 Anastatia arrived in Boston. On the passenger listing, Anastatia was listed as a domestic servant with Immigration Visa number 11535. Her friend was listed as Stasia Russel (Stasia Russel is possibly Anastatia's cousin who emigrated to USA previously). [3]

On 03 July 1931, Anastatia was issued with a certificate of arrival number 1-67822. [4]

On 06 August 1931, Anastatia registered her Declaration of Intent to become naturalised. On the declaration, Anastatia is listed as residing at 812 Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, Suffolk, Massachussets as a domestic. Anastatia is listed as white, light complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, height of 5 foot, weight of 123 pounds and not married with no children. [5]

On 09 May 1938, Anastatia registered her Naturalisation Petition. The Petition number is 187962. Place of residence is listed as 75 Crawford street, Boston. Anastatia is listed as not married and having no children. Witnesses were listed as knowing Anastatia since 1932: 1. Edward S. Norton, an elevator operator residing at 79 Pleasant street, Boston. 2. Edward J. Norcott, a salesman residing in 480 Columbia road, Boston. [6]

On 20 September 1938, Anastasia received her naturalisation certificate. Her address was still listed as 75 Crawford street, Boston. Certificate number was 4527550. [7]

It is said that Anastatia married in America, did not have any children and died in a workhouse. [8]

Jessfield

The farmland is in Jessfield, Ballingarry however it is also noted as Modeshil on the census records. The Barony is Slievardagh. During the Cromwellian invasion, the barony of Slievardagh was given to Cromwell’s soldiers. Lt. Jesse received the lands of Farranrory and Jessfield is named after him. [9]
