On Walter Fitzgerald's tombstone in Tranquil Methodist Cemetery appears the inscription "Born in Virginia". This is almost certainly incorrect. The 1850 Census for Pittsylvania County VA shows him as having been born in Maryland. Other indications, although inconclusive, in Maryland State Archives snow Fitzgeralds with christain names identical to some of his siblings, but one generation older, in Montgomery County.
He first apears in both the land and personal property tax records of Pittsylvania County in 1805.
A deed executed by Walter Fitzgerald and his wife, Mary C., in 1854 in Campbell County, Viriginia, indicates that when he came to Mississippi to live with his son, William Harrison, about 1860, he may have been, most recently, a resident of Campbell Co, but he did not own land in Campbell County. He died in Monroe County, MS.
His Probate Records are in Monroe County, "Inv. Chan. 12, Page 440"
