Alice was born in 1759. She was the daughter of John and Alice (Thornton) Fitzhugh.
In 1779, in Port Royal, she married Harry Dixon, son of Captain Edward and Sarah Dixon. Sarah was the daughter of Thomas Turner and Sarah Taliaferro, prominent Virginia families.
Harry passed away a few years later, leaving her with three very young children.
In 1784 she remarried John Burkett Pratt. Their children were:
