Biography

Rosanna Fitzpatrick was born in 1823 in Belfast, Ireland. Per her death certificate, her parents were Riley Fitzpatrick and Mary Fitzpatrick.^[1] According to her obituary, she settled with her parents in Albany, New York,

Rosanna married Thomas Duffy (1830 - 1864) of Troy, New York. They journeyed west to Grand Rapids, Wisconsin. Their children were:

1. James Duffy (1850 - 1869)
2. George Thomas Duffy (1852 - 1913)
3. Rosetta (Duffy) Kenevan (1856 - 1937)
4. Stephen Duffy (1857 - <1937)
5. Edward Duffy (1861 - 1892)

In the 1850 census Rosa (age 25) was in Grand Rapids, Portage, Wisconsin, United States.^[2]

In the 1860 census Roseana (age 35) was in Preston, Adams, Wisconsin.^[3] Thomas, age thirty, was working as a merchant. They had five children in the home. Thomas died in 1864.

In the spring of 1865 Rosanna came with her son George to Austin, Mower County, Michigan. In the 1870 census Rosannah (age 40), Keeping House & Farming, was in Oakland, Freeborn, Minnesota.^[4]

In the 1880 census Rosanna (age 58), Keeping House, was the widowed head of household in Wergeland, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota.^[5] Rosanna was in a land patent record on 28 April 1888.^[6]

Rosanna died on Thursday, 27 August 1896, in Austin, Mower County, Minnesota, aged ~73. Funeral services were Saturday, 29 August 1896, from St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin with Rev. Father Devlin.^[7] She was mentioned in the Mower County Transcript on 2 September 1896 in Lansing, Minnesota.^[8] The funeral services had a large attendance.
