Teresa Agnes Flanagan was born in 1879 in Manor, Tulsk, to Thomas Flanagan and Teresa Mooney[1]. Her parents ran a public house and she grew up in the three roomed thatched building with five front windows. She was not at home during the 1901 census.
On 7 May 1906, Teresa married John Flanagan of Clooncor, Tulsk[2]. Her address was given as Cloonakillamore. Their witnesses were Patrick Flanagan and Bridget Tighe. John and Teresa had arranged to be married earlier in the year but put back the date to make proper enquiries about the inheritance of John's family farm (his father had recently died). John and his brother Michael Flanagan had a dispute over the farm.
October 27, 1906 Roscommon Messenger A Strokestown Case
Michael Flanagan, Strokestown, sued Mrs Flanagan and John Flanagan, Curaslira, for £20 due as cash lent and for work done. Mr PJ Gaynor defended. Michael Flanagan, sworn, said that his father died last April and made no will. "I lent money to my father on several occasions. I lent him £3 10s to buy a calf and £1 10s to buy bonhams". He read out smaller items which made up a bill of £15. Cross examined- "The items in the book were written from time to time. I have given over my house to my wife. I was only processed on one occasion. I never asked my brother John to lend me £5 or £10. I should get it by right". Mrs Flanagan said she was present when her husband gave money to his father. "He used to always tell us that we would get the place from him. I was present on the last occasion when my husband gave him £1. He said John was soon getting married and that he would give my husband £40." John Flanagan, son of Michael Flanagan, deposed he got married last May. He was to be married earlier in the year but the match was put back in order to make proper enquiries regarding the place. "My father never had to borrow money from Michael Flanagan, who was a constant drain on their house ever since he got married. He asked me to lend him money since he got married. After my father's death, I had to pay a bill of £6 which was against him". His Honor dismissed the case on the merits, with 5s expenses.
John succeeded in inheriting the farm. He and Teresa raised their family in his three roomed thatched cottage, which had three front windows. There was a cow house and a barn on their farm[3].
